This program focuses on building water confidence, safety awareness and aquatic skills. It is a specialised program with clear learning outcomes, although fun and purposeful play are key components. The goal is to provide an exciting water classroom where our teachers will deliver structured lessons that help the children work through our simple but effective level goals. The key focuses are the development of water safety awareness and survival skills as well as age appropriate swimming skills. Again, there is a big focus on active movement and the progression through developmental milestones. These lessons are planned with an emphasis on ensuring the overall wellbeing of our students.
Pre-school classes are 30 minutes long and participation at least once a week is encouraged. At an entry level, Pre-school Beginners, we include a caregiver in the water with each child. This is in line with our philosophy of “teach the child, educate the parent” regarding helping develop a safer culture around water safety for young children. It enables the whanau to be a part of their child’s aquatic learning journey. It also enables the pre-schooler to have a smoother and more settled start to learning to swim. Once your child is confident and submerging happily as well as mastered the basics of floating and kicking, they will progress to a class on their own without a caregiver in the water.
